4 Convicted in 2008 Jaipur Blast Case; 1 held not guilty ILW LAW CRITIQUE Thu, Dec 19, 2019, at ,12:36 PM The markets were abuzz with activity on a busy Tuesday Summer evening at two Hanuman temples at Sanganeri Gate and Chandpole. Around 7.20 pm nine serial bomb blasts rocked Jaipur city on May 13, 2008. 9 IED bombs at eight places in the walled city killed 71 people and injured 185 people. The 280-year-old city was rocked by a terror attack. Thirteen men, all in their 20s, were charged with waging war against the nation, murder, and conspiracy. Five of them were arrested and are in Jaipur Central Jail; three others are in Tihar Jail because they are accused in other serial blasts of 2008; two got killed in Batla House encounter in Delhi in September 2008, and three are absconding. The trial in Court began in a Jaipur Special Court in Jaipur. 11 years later on December 18, the court Convicted 4 of the 5 accused who are central jail Jaipur was convicted. The four accused - Sarvar Aazmi, Mohammad Saif, Saifur Rahman, and Salman - were held guilty in the case by the court. While Shahbaz Hussain, the fifth accused, was held not guilty. Why Shahbaz was held not guilty? Shahbaz Hussain's lawyer Suresh Vyas said that the prosecutor failed to prove charges against him. He was acquitted for lack of evidence. The charges against Hussain encluded - sending an email and taking responsibility of the blasts, however, the prosecution could not prove these allegations due to which the court acquitted Hussain in all the cases. Convictions: Mohammad Saif alias Carryon is convicted for the blast in Manak Chowk police station. Mohammad Sarwar Aazmi convicted for his role in the Chandpole hanuman temple. Mohammad Salman is convicted of carrying out blasts in the Sanganeri Hanuman temple. Saifur alias Saifurehman Ansari is convicted of planting bombs at five different places. The Court will pronounce the Quantum of Punishment in 2 days.
