Hindu and Muslim Groups stand opposite on Mediation of Ayodhya-Babri Title dispute Rishabh Kesarwani LAW CRITIQUE Wed, Mar 06, 2019, at ,01:57 PM The Supreme Court said today that Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute is not an issue of land but one of "sentiment and faith". The Constitutional bench of Chief Justice Gogoi, Justice Bobde, Justice Chandrachud, Justices Ashok Bhushan and SA Nazeer reserved its order on whether the politically sensitive Ayodhya-Babri Masjid title dispute case can be adjudicated through mediation. The Hindu groups stickly opposed the reference to mediation. They submitted that the matter was not a mere property dispute, but was concerning faith and sentitments. On the other side, Muslim groups expressed their willingness to participate in mediation. Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi stated "It is not only about property. It is about mind, heart and healing, if possible,". Justice Bobde remarked that the court was conscious of the gravity of the dispute and its impact on "body politic". The endeavour is to "heal relations". Justice Chandrachud seemed to have reservations about the efficacy of mediation process.
