One more state slipped from BJPs hand: JMM-Congress-RJD alliance wins Jharkhand Assembly Elections with 47 seats News Updates Tue, Dec 24, 2019, at ,12:10 PM The ‘Mahagathbandhan’ alliance between Congress (16), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)(30) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)(1) successfully claimed their government in Jharkhand with 47 seats in 81 seat Jharkhand Assembly Elections. Bharatiya Janata Party failed to protect the previous Raghubar Das led government and managed to secure only 25 seats. Raghubar Das himself lost his seat from Jamshedpur East seat by a margin of 15,833 votes to BJP rebel and his former state Cabinet colleague Saryu Roy. Raghubar Das tendered his resignation from the post of CM to Governor Draupadi Murmu. He will hold the office until the new government is in place. JMM leader and most popular face for CM Hemant Soren has won both Dumka and Barhait Assembly seats. He defeated BJP's Lois Marandi by a margin of 13,188 votes to win the Dumka constituency. Soren won the Barhait seat against BJP's Simon Malto by a margin of 25,740 votes. The alliance announced Soren to be the CM of Jharkhand. Who Is Hemant Soren? Hemant Soren is ex-chief Minister (13 July 2013 – 28 December 2014) and Son of 3rd Chief Minister of Jharkhand Shibu Soren. His educational qualification is Intermediate from Patna High School, Patna. As per the affidavit filed before Election Commission, Hemant enrolled in BIT Mesra, Ranchi in Mechanical Engineering, but failed to complete the course. He was a member of Rajya Sabha from 24 June 2009 to 4 January 2010. PM Narendra Modi has expressed his gratitude towards the people of Jharkhand for the "opportunity to serve" in a tweet. The Prime Minister also congratulated JMM leader Hemant Soren as the JMM-Congress alliance maintained a lead in the trends so far. "We will continue serving the state and raising people-centric issues in the times to come," he further added.
