The Allahabad High Court has taken Judicial notice of the death of 135 persons, who were on election duty during Panchayat elections in the State, due to Covid-19 Admin Wed, Apr 28, 2021, at ,02:33 PM Taking note of the reported deaths of 135 teachers, Shiksha Mitras, and investigators assigned on panchayat election duty, the Allahabad high court issued notices to Uttar Pradesh State Election Commission (UPSEC) and sought an explanation on why it failed to check non-compliance with Covid guidelines during multiple phases of panchayat elections. a division bench comprising justice Siddhartha Varma and justice Ajit Kumar further directed the state election commission to “take immediate measures in remaining phases of panchayat elections to ensure Covid guidelines are complied with, else action would be taken against officials involved in the election process”.
