About the Legal Internship Opportunity at Conservation Indica
Do you have a passion for India's natural heritage and the legal frameworks safeguarding it? Conservation Indica is seeking a Law Intern to assist in translating environmental and nature protection laws, particularly their implementation in Gujarat, into practical, citizen-friendly language.
Work
Summarize these laws and legal instruments into easy-to-understand, actionable points for NGOs and the general public.
Your work will directly empower citizens to protect our shared natural heritage.
Area you’ll work with
Gujarat State’s legislation of the following:
The Indian Forest Act, 1927
The Wildlife Protection Act, 1972
The Environment Protection Act, 1986
The Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980
The Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006
The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974
The Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981
The Biological Diversity Act, 2002
The National Green Tribunal Act, 2010
The Compensatory Afforestation Fund Act, 2016
Any other law or legal instruments related to nature, introduced or amended by the state of Gujarat.
Stipend
A total of ₹20,000 will be paid upon the successful completion and delivery of the final output.
Duration
The anticipated completion of the final output is within 3 months from the beginning of the internship. The working hours are flexible.
Location
The intern has the option to work remotely and participate in regular online meetings with the Conservation India team. Additionally, the intern is invited to visit our offices in Baroda and Chotila, as well as field locations, for a unique, hands-on experience. Basic yet secure accommodation and meals will be provided for the intern during the fieldwork period.
Eligibility
Law students or graduates with a strong interest in environmental law.
Must be proficient in reading and understanding Gujarat state’s legal instruments accurately as the intern will be responsible for directly working with Gujarat State’s Acts, Rules, Exemptions, Amendments, other legal instruments, and Government Resolutions drafted in Gujarati language.
Must be excellent in English, as the intern will be responsible for simplifying the above into action-oriented English summary points.
Excellent research and analytical skills.
Interest in conserving nature and wildlife.
