About The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea
The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) is an independent judicial body established under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Headquartered in Hamburg, Germany, the Tribunal adjudicates disputes concerning the interpretation and application of international law relating to the law of the sea.
About the Internship
ITLOS offers a limited number of internships every year to students and recent graduates in law, international relations, political science, public relations, library science, and translation.
Interns work under the supervision of Registry officials on matters relevant to the work of the Tribunal. The programme provides practical exposure to the functioning of an international judicial institution and allows interns to contribute to work relating to:
Law of the Sea
Public International Law
International Organizations
International Relations
Public Information
Translation and Library Services
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should:
Have completed at least 3 years of university studies
Normally be enrolled in a degree-granting/postgraduate course during the internship or be a recent graduate
Normally not be more than 32 years of age
Possess a good command of English and/or French
Have an interest in international law, law of the sea, international affairs, or international organizations
