An allegation of sexual harassment was made against Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi by a former employee of Supreme Court. For this extraordinary hearing a three judges bench was constituted which was headed by the CJI himself and Justices Arun Mishra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna. . In response to the allegations the CJI said “"This is unbelievable. I don't think I should stoop low even to deny these allegation," he said, adding, "There has to be bigger force behind this, they want to deactivate the office of CJI." The Apex Court Registry issued a notice earlier today and set up a bench which willbe headed by CJI and mentioned the matter as "matter of great public importance touching upon the independence of judiciary". In the affidavit submitted by the victim, the victim stated that the incident took place in october 2018, days after Justice Gogoi was appointed as CJI. The sworn affidavit was sent to 22 justices of the Supreme Court. In a report by scroll.in the victim described the incident as “He hugged me around the waist, and touched me all over my body with his arms and by pressing his body against mine, and did not let go.” The affidavit also provides a chilling, opressive account of the apparent victimisation she, her husband and their family have undergone over the past few months – ever since she spurned what she claimed were inappropriate advances last October. .The alleged incident of harassment happened on October 11, 2018. The woman has since been dismissed from service and seen her whole life fall apart. Secretary General of Supreme Court Sanjeev Sudhakar Kalgaonkar said that the allegations are false, malafide and it have no basis. Later in response to the allegation the CJI said that "After 20 years of selfless service as judge, I have bank balance of Rs 6.80 lakh," "Nobody can catch me on money, people have to find something and they have found this: This is the reward CJI gets after 20 years of service," he added. "I have taken this unusual and extraordinary step of sitting in court today because things have gone too far," Judiciary can't be made a scapegoat, says CJI Gogoi. In another cheating and criminal intimidation case the bail of former woman Supreme Court Employee, who also alleged CJI of Sexual Harassment, is set to hear on 24th April by a Delhi Court. An FIR for the alleged offences of cheating, criminal intimidation and criminal conspiracy was lodged against the woman on March 3, after a complaint was filed by Naveen Kumar, a resident of Jhajjar in Haryana, at the Tilak Marg Police Station here.Kumar has alleged that the former apex court employee had defrauded him of Rs 50,000, which he claimed she took as part of a bribe, promising him a job at the Supreme Court.
