About the Legal Internship Opportunity at OutofCourt.in

Outofcourt.in offers a 4-week mediation internship for law students to learn about the evolving dispute resolution system in India. This internship is guided and self-driven. Interns learn about mediation through research, observation, and active participation in practice, rather than lectures.

Meena P. Waghray and the Outofcourt.in mediators team serve as program mentors.


Working Area

Interns take responsibility for their learning by:

  • Researching mediation and ADR concepts.

  • Studying legal frameworks, case laws, and real-world scenarios.

  • Observing how mediation relates to courts and dispute resolution systems

  • Reflecting on their learning using structured outputs.

Although guidance and feedback are provided, the intern is responsible for ensuring engagement.


Areas You Will Explore

  • Process and dynamics of mediation

  • Core principles of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)

  • The Mediation Bill and its role in India

  • Judicial approaches and case laws

  • Settlement structures and documentation

  • The evolution of mediation in India


Field Observation (Mandatory)

  • Visit to a mediation center

  • Visit to a Court


What We Expect from Interns

Interns are expected to participate actively.

1. Research and Learning

  • Conduct independent research on assigned topics.

  • Engage with legal materials and case studies.

2. Reflection and Documentation

  • Maintain a weekly reflection journal that culminates in an internship report.

  • Document findings from research and field visits.

3. Understanding the Mediation Process Initiative

This can include:

  • Creating simple explanations, posts, or short content about mediation

  • Sharing insights from their internship experience 

  • Writing brief articles or reflections. 

  • Engaging peers in discussions on ADR.

4. Outreach and leadership (optional, but encouraged).

Interns are encouraged to take initiative as follows:

  • Conducting a small awareness session or discussion at their college.

  • Working with ADR cells or student groups

  • Introducing mediation concepts to peers in an accessible way.
