ABOUT SIMATS

The Saveetha Medical and Educational Trust was created in 1986 mainly to provide medical relief, promote Education, and encourage Research. The Trust started Saveetha Dental College and established an attached General Hospital in 1988. Subsequently, the Trust established Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Law, and Engineering Colleges to serve the community, especially in rural villages in and around Chennai and adjoining districts of Tamil Nadu. SIMATS is accredited by NABH and NABL, ranked among top 10 Indian Universities, and 395th in the World (2020 UI Green Metric World University Rankings). SIMATS comprises over 15,000 students and 3,500 faculty members.


ABOUT SAVEETHA SCHOOL OF LAW

Established in 2009, Saveetha School of Law (SSL) aims to strive for Quality Legal Education and maintain higher standards of Legal Research and Training. ABOUT CINE LEX CRITICA 2026

Film reviews evaluate storytelling, performances, and artistic merit. Cine Lex Critica infuses this tradition with legal reasoning. As law students equipped with interpretation, analysis, and argumentation skills, participants are invited to examine cinema through a legal lens—interrogating the portrayal of justice, challenging ethical dilemmas, and identifying legal issues within narratives. Saveetha School of Law proudly welcomes all law students to the 3rd Edition of this celebrated national competition.


OBJECTIVES

·       To inspire students to interpret, analyse, and critique cinema through a meaningful legal perspective.

·       To explore and highlight more effective portrayals and executions of legal principles within films and web series.

·       To unleash the creative potential of law students through the compelling medium of movie review.

·       To bridge the gap between law and society by spreading legal awareness through popular cinema, making law accessible to the common person.


WHAT WE EXPECT

Participants are encouraged to creatively connect the film's storyline with relevant legal frameworks spanning domestic legislation to principles of international law and Jus Cogens. Reviews must present a legally grounded analysis supported by statutes, sections, landmark judgments, and case laws. Originality of thought combined with legal precision is key.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

  • Team Composition:  Each participating team shall comprise three (3) members.

  • Eligibility:  Open to students pursuing 3-year/5-year LL.B. undergraduate courses or LL.M. postgraduate courses from any recognized Law College/University in India. All team members must belong to the same institution.

  • Institutional Limit:  A maximum of 3 teams are allowed per institution.

  • Registration Process:  Teams must complete provisional registration via Google Form. Registration is complete only upon successful payment and submission of the Final Form.

STRUCTURE OF THE COMPETITION & SCORING CRITERIA

1. Preliminary Round (15th September 2026)

  • Each team gets 10 to 12 minutes to present a legal review of ONE movie selected from the prescribed list.

  • Time may be split among the 3 members at team discretion.

  • PowerPoint Presentation (PPT) is mandatory and carries weightage. PPTs must be submitted on or before September 12, 2026 to cinelexcritica2026.ssl@gmail.com.

  • Reviews must strictly confine to legal perspectives.

2. Semifinals (16th September 2026)

  • Top 8 teams from the Preliminary Round qualify.

  • Teams will be provided separate movie video clips (max 5 minutes).

  • Teams get 5 minutes total to watch and prepare, followed by 5 minutes to present their legal review to the judges.

3. Grand Finale (16th September 2026)

  • Top 3 teams from Semifinals advance to the Finals.

  • Buzzer Round format based on event objectives (specific rules disclosed on the event day).

  • Highest scoring team wins 'CINE LEX CRITICA 2026 - Season III'.


GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS & DRESS CODE

  • Anonymity:  Team Codes provided upon registration must be used as the sole identity. Disclosing institution name to judges/other teams leads to disqualification.

  • ID Cards:  Mandatory to carry and produce College ID Cards at registration.

  • Medium:  English only. (Selected movie clips may be in Indian languages with English subtitles).

  • Conduct:  Constructive criticism is encouraged. Defamatory, obscene, or scandalous language is strictly prohibited.

  • Dress Code General: Decent formal attire with blazers is mandatory.

  • Dress Code (Male): Black formal trousers, White shirt, Black blazer, Black formal shoes.

  • Dress Code (Female): Black formal trousers with White Kurta, Black waistcoat/Dupatta OR a white formal shirt with Black blazer, Black formal shoes.

  • General Terms:  No accommodation provided. Teams cannot participate in other concurrent Law Fest events.
