On April 22, 2025, Jammu and Kashmir witnessed one of the deadliest terror attacks in recent times. In the beautiful tourist area of Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, five heavily armed terrorists suddenly opened fire on a group of tourists who were enjoying the scenic views. The attack was brutal and shocking, leading to the deaths of 26 innocent people and injuring more than 20 others. Among those killed, the majority were Hindu tourists who had come from different states across India to visit Kashmir. Tragically, one of the victims was also a tourist from Nepal. The attack targeted peaceful civilians who had no involvement in any political matters, making the act even more horrifying.

Shortly after the attack, a group called The Resistance Front, also known as TRF, claimed responsibility. In their statement, they said that they carried out the attack to oppose the settlement of non-local people in the Kashmir Valley. However, not long after, TRF took back their claim and said that it was a mistake due to a communication error within their group. This confusion over responsibility only added to the anger and sadness felt across the country.

The Indian government acted swiftly and decisively in response to the attack. One of the first measures taken was the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, a historic agreement signed with Pakistan that governs the sharing of river waters between the two countries. This move was seen as a clear message to Pakistan that India would not tolerate continued acts of terror allegedly originating from Pakistani soil. The Indian government also expelled Pakistani diplomats from the country, showing its anger and frustration on the international stage. Security forces across the country were put on high alert to prevent any further incidents.

At the same time, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) launched a full-scale investigation to find out exactly who was behind the attack and to identify any local support networks. The Indian Army also began intense military operations in the area to hunt down any remaining terrorists. These actions showed the government's commitment to bringing the attackers and their supporters to justice.

The attack drew strong international reactions as well. Countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, and organizations like the United Nations condemned the attack in clear terms. They expressed their solidarity with India and stressed the importance of fighting terrorism everywhere. Many leaders around the world said that attacking innocent civilians, especially tourists, was a despicable act that deserved universal condemnation.

Inside India, the emotions were running high. People from all walks of life took to the streets to protest against Pakistan, demanding strong action and justice for the victims. There were large gatherings and candlelight marches in many cities. Anger also spilled over onto the internet, where people called for economic and diplomatic isolation of Pakistan. The Indian government responded by banning 16 YouTube channels from Pakistan, accusing them of spreading lies and misleading stories after the attack. Officials said that these channels were trying to create confusion and sympathy for terrorists, which needed to be stopped immediately.

As a result of this attack, the already strained relationship between India and Pakistan became even worse. Diplomatic communication between the two countries nearly came to a standstill, and small clashes along the Line of Control were reported. Many experts fear that if tensions continue to rise, there could be more serious confrontations in the future. The situation remains tense, and the memory of the attack has left a deep scar on the hearts of many Indians.

This tragic incident reminded the entire world once again that terrorism continues to be a serious threat to peace and security, and that innocent lives often pay the highest price. The people of India are now demanding not only justice for the victims but also long-term solutions to ensure such horrors are never repeated.
